The Scary Story of Pelham’s Past (Happy Halloween!)

The Scary Story of Pelhams Past (Happy Halloween!)

Halloween is here, and Pelham has some spooky secrets not a lot of people know of. Do you like scary stuff? Do you like ghosts? Then this story about Wolfs Lane shrieking ghost is the thing for you.

One Monday night in 1905, darkness arrived and the people of Pelham were almost sound asleep. John Kenny (a resident of Pelham) was walking near a gas station where two women were nearby. As Kenny was walking further along he heard a horrid ear splitting hiss come from the darkness he knew he should flee soon. Right then he heard a horrifying screech and he knew he’d soon die. Kenny ran for his life, but as he ran he looked back over his shoulder and saw a white “human figure” chasing him as he ran faster. He looked forward again and realized the two women were there running away from the ghost as well.

The white figure chased them all the way to wolfs lane. When they all reached the roadway they looked back and saw that the figure disappeared.

People said that the “figure” was not a ghost but, just, “a white horse from a pasture somewhere in Vernon Heights.” Although Kenny could not tell the difference between a human figure and a horse from five to six feet away people stated that they saw “the figure somewhere else” as Pelham residents reported that they heard “a horrid and hiduous screech” at night. Not only that but people tried to hunt down the horrid ghost but only to find a screech owl. Although Kenny and the two women did not see a horse, not a puff of steam, and definitely not an owl, but what they saw was barely describable.

Do you believe Kenny saw a real figure? Or do you think it was just an owl with a scratchy voice?  But either way a magazine once “rated Pelham as the sixth most haunted town in the state of new york”- Fate magazine 2007.
