Eighth grader at PMS

Whether you are new to middle school, it’s your first year or maybe your second, it can be frightening starting a new school year. The homework increases, the curriculum is harder and year by year rules become more strict. That is why I will be walking you through how to crush the new school year in Middle School.

Managing Work

If you are an incoming sixth grader, middle school is completely different. For one, the homework may seem overwhelming and hard to stay on top of compared to Elementary school especially with many different subjects. For all seventh graders work dramatically increased from sixth grade. You can easily manage these feelings of being overwhelmed and do great in middle school. Having a planner is very useful to keep track of your work. Planners are an amazing way to keep track of due dates, set goals for what work to get finished and to stay organized! Also never save all your homework until the last minute. This can make it overwhelming and you will be rushing to complete it. Make sure to use your study halls wisely and as tempting as it may be to play games and talk with friends, do your homework instead! Make use of academy period and if needed, talk to your teacher about any work you may be having difficulty with. Going to academy is extremely helpful and can help you with something you are struggling to understand better.

Acing your next assessment

Many students may be wondering, “How can I do well on tests and quizzes?” Well, you want to give yourself a couple of days to study and don’t procrastinate studying until the last minute. Using Flashcards and making review sheets can be helpful and informative too. The day before an assessment I recommend going to academy period also to ask your teacher any questions you may have prior to the assessment. If you follow these tips you will be sure to ace your next assessment!

Conclusion

Throughout my years at PMS I have learned through success and failure how to navigate through sixth and seventh grade. Although these academic tips can be helpful, do not forget to also enjoy the school year while it lasts and have fun!
