Family gets backlash for their popular Stranger Things Halloween decorations!

Spooky days are approaching and people are wowed at how people have set up their Halloween decorations, such as this family in Plainfield, Illinois. After 1,500 hours of hard work, David and Audrey Appel have taken Halloween to the next level. Audrey and David have been working up to 9 hours a day last month and have gone viral over it. Even the TikTok of it has 14 million views as of September 28th and even captured the attention of Netflix themselves who commented “#001 fan for sure,”.

The most notable aspect in the set up is the floating Max in front of the house. There’s no wires nor supports which makes it look like it’s floating in mid air. “We plan to keep Max a secret until later on in the season.” the Appel explained. “I want kids to be like ‘Wow!’ or parents to be like ‘Look at max up there!’” Appel’s Halloween decorations may have gotten lots of attention, but with all this attention comes some backlash.

Recently, the Appel’s have received lots of hate for their Halloween decorations. “Our neighbors were okay with the project when we told them about it, but now they’re asking it to be taken down.” says David Appel. Small Protests were made saying to take the decorations down but the Appel’s weren’t letting that be. One of the neighbors threatened them and some visitors with a bat and caused safety concerns. Because of that, the decorations were closed for a little while until they got permission from the mayor.

Similar incidents have happened like what happened to Nick Thomas in 2015. Major traffic was created in Naperville and neighbors would complain about it. This led to the Ashbury Homeowners Association to pass a law saying that decorations can only take up 50% of a yard. Thomas felt bad and opted to stop decorating his house entirely.

Incidents like these have been happening more and more as decorations are being taken down around the world.
