Many kids skip over Thanksgiving, and think straight to Christmas. In fact, 15 out of the 15 PMS students I asked said they prefer Christmas over Thanksgiving. In my opinion, Thanksgiving is underrated and deserves way more acknowledgment than it gets.
Thanksgiving means many things. It means family. Gathering around the table with the people you love and the people who love you. Thanksgiving means gratitude. It’s important to use Thanksgiving as a day to reflect, and discover all the things you take for granted in your life. To me, Thanksgiving also means warmth. Whether it’s the warmth of a big hug from your grandma, or the warmth of the oven as it works hard cooking turkeys and pies. Warmth can be safety, coziness, happiness, and love. Thanksgiving brings you feelings of joy. For me, thanksgiving means snuggling on the couch while the smell of food drifts through the air. Watching the Macy’s Day Parade, the dog show, and maybe even some Football.
In conclusion, don’t take Thanksgiving for granted. Celebrate all the things you are blessed with, with the people you love. And don’t forget gravy!
