Hello 6th and 7th graders of PMS! I hope you’re all having a great year so far, but I have some advice to make this an even better year! My first and most important piece of advice is to ALWAYS do your homework!!! I know no one likes homework, but it’s the easiest way to get a higher average! Say you got a bad grade on a test that brought your average down. One of the easiest ways to bring it back up is to do your homework! The same goes for classwork, because sometimes you also get graded on classwork.
Another tip I have is to study at least 3 days in advance before a quiz. Sometimes when I know I have a quiz coming up, I’ll wait until right before the quiz to study, which is a really bad habit of mine. I recommend studying in a study hall(instead of playing games), after school, and a little right before bed. (it’s proven that studying right before you sleep can help you memorize material better)
Another tip I have is to stay away from drama and toxic/fake friends. Drama never ends well and it’s always a waste of time. As for fake friends, I’d say it’s better to have no friends than to have fake friends. If you don’t have any friends, don’t feel bad! It’s totally normal to lose some of your friends when transitioning into middle school, and the best thing you can do is to keep your head up and try to make new friends. And if you don’t know how to make friends, here are some ideas:
- Compliment them and then start a conversation
- Try to talk to people you have a group project with
- Join clubs with the same interests as you to meet people who are more like you
My last piece of advice for middle school is never be shy to ask questions or ask for help. After all, your teachers are there to help you, and I can assure you that they would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have! Remember to always be kind and that it’s okay to make mistakes!
