Hello 6th grade student! My name is Sophie McCann and I am here to help you navigate your way through Middle School. I am a current 8th grader and know my stuff. My first piece of advice I have is to be organized. Unlike in elementary school, you will be switching classes and will need to make sure you have all of the necessary materials to be successful in each class. For example, I kept my morning supplies in a binder and my afternoon supplies in another binder to keep me organized and to be able to carry less supplies.
My next piece of advice is to manage your time well. Throughout the year, you will have periods during the day called study halls to have less work for home or to catch up on work. Use this time wisely and don’t fool around because 41 minutes is not a lot of time and before you know it, the period will be over and you might not have gotten to all the things you needed to. Also, at home, don’t get distracted by things such as the tv or phone and have homework be your first priority.
My final piece of advice is to build good study habits to prepare you for the work you do this year and for all of the years of schooling to come. Some helpful study habits include flashcards, looking over notes and homework, and finding online quizzes. Studying keeps the topics you learn fresh in your mind for when you have a test or quiz and helps you feel confident in your answers.
In conclusion, middle school can be a long and stressful journey but these tips are sure to help you out along the way, good luck in middle school!
