TikTok. A social media platform known by almost the entire world. This App with billions of users has just been banned in the U.S because of national security concerns related to its Owner: Bytedance based in China. Banning TikTok would also include banning apps that ByteDance owns such as Lemon8 and Capcut. Many questions emerged when influencers and TikTok users heard this news. Influencers were left with no jobs, and users didn’t know where to go after TikTok was banned. TikTok was supposed to be banned on January 19th 2025, but was banned a few hours before in the U.S at about 11:00 Eastern Time. If you were on the app at the time you got a message saying “A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you cannot use TikTok for now,” Despite this message, only 12 hours after shutting down, Tiktok opened back up again in the U.S. They said “As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the U.S” Many American users were elated when hearing this news. Although, those who have deleted the app are not able to get it back. The app does not appear when you search for it on the app store. So, as the rest of the world appreciates TikTok staying up, American users are questioning what will happen in the future.
