In the 8th grade at Pelham Middle School, all students get involved in completing a community project. This project is worked on throughout the whole school year. The project is very beneficial to students, and there are many reasons why it is important to do. This is because students get time to work on their communication skills, practice managing their time, and get experience helping their community.

One reason why it is important for students to participate in the Community Service Project, is because they get time to work on their skills dealing with communication. In terms of communication skills, students have to get in touch with people about their projects. These people could be managers of companies, or significant people to the town. But students very much learn how to talk with someone in a formal setting. It’s super important for students to understand how to talk to adults, so this project is a perfect way to do it.
Another reason why these projects are important to students is because they get to experience helping their community. This is important, so that students can understand their neighborhood, and how it is operated. Also helping the community can help students practice their leadership for the future. Because once the students grow up and are looking to get a job or start a business they will have to understand how to help the people around them, and be in charge. In addition, it’s important for students to help their community because they can experience what others do every day. Because there are multiple people in the community that are always working to help.

The final reason why community service projects are important is because students get to work on managing their own time throughout the year. Over the course of one school year a small group of about 4 -5 students will have to learn to be responsible with due dates. During the year students get a decent amount of class time to work on these projects, but are still expected to work on it during their own time. Students need to communicate with their group about when they will start to take action with their projects such as calling someone, or visiting somewhere. Managing time is a very key aspect in the community projects because if the group puts their work off to the last minute without communicating, they could get a worse grade, and possibly not even end up finishing in time. 

Overall, throughout the year the 8th grade students have many expectations for their Community Project. The project gives students many benefits to their future in working and being responsible. This project is super important for all students to do because it helps students learn to manage their time responsibly, communicate with people in a formal setting, and get experience helping their community.
