At Pelham Middle School, the community project takes a major part because of many ways. It teaches students many skills for the future such as public speaking, volunteering, and different work ethics. It also teaches us cooperation and leadership skills in groups.
The community project teaches students skills for the future in many different ways. One of the ways it teaches us future skills is public speaking. This helps because in the future, many of the students will have business meetings and will need to get over their fear of public speaking. Another reason it teaches us future skills is volunteering. By the students being able to choose their topic and then helping the animals/research/people they chose is amazing. In the future, many of these students will have a boss who could ask a group of people to refine their schedule, by volunteering could always get you on their good side. Lastly, it teaches future skills by teaching us different work ethics. Many of the kids now know what work works for them and what doesn’t. A student might need to handwrite their work, while their partner needs to type their work.
Another skill the community project teaches us is how to cooperate and be a leader in your group. Being able to cooperate is really important and helpful especially when things get harder. If a day of helping your project does not go as planned, instead of arguing and blaming people, you should reflect and see what to work on better for next time. Being a leader in your group also helps. However, many people can abuse this power by bossing people around, it is still a key role in a project. A partner could be off task or zoning out, but if a person with leadership skills tells them they need to get their work done and get their head back in the game, they will.
To sum it all up, at Pelham Middle School the community project has an importance in my ways. It helps with skills for your future. Not only that, it also helps you with cooperation and leadership. Being a group player and focusing will always work in your groups!
