Our 8th grade is so appreciative for Sami Steigmann coming to Pelham Middle School and sharing his story with us students. Sami Steigmann is a holocaust survivor. He went to the camp when he was only one and a half years old. It was a great experience and opportunity for me to have him come to Pelham Middle School and talk to all 8th graders about his journey and time during the holocaust. This impacted me due to the fact that when he was describing his story, I felt as though in the moment, even when I knew that wasn’t possible. I learned many things from him, such as what to do when facing hardships, and how to stay positive and be kind to oneself, which really impacted me. During class, we have been reading a book written by a holocaust survivor. I was able to connect his and the book’s story during his presentation. As much as their experiences were similar, they both faced it in a different way. I loved how he talked about staying positive, even in the hardest times, and how he fought to stay strong when the things he faced were difficult. I am really happy that he decided to come to our school and share about his life experiences. I think it is important when one does that, because it teaches others and gives a real life example. Once again, I just really want to thank him for choosing to come to Pelham Middle School and talk and teach us. This was a very important learning moment for me, and I really appreciated the visit, and loved learning about him and his time and how he faced it emotionally and physically, even though he didn’t remember much.
