The Release of The iPhone X
iPhone X

November 12, 2017
Ten years ago, Steve Jobs announced the iPhone 2G. This was the very first iPhone around. He referred to his new invention as a wide screen iPod. When Steve meant iPod, he didn’t mean the iPod we have today. He meant the iPod that had a tiny screen and wasn’t touchable. When he told everyone this, he wanted them to believe that this new device was able to play music. Steve Jobs then said that his new device would be able to access the internet. People were also surprised by this. The last quality that made the iPhone a phone was its phone. At the time when Steve Jobs was explaining this to everyone, the spectators were amazed, and so were the buyers of the phone. 10 whole years later, the iPhone is a completely different piece of technology.
On November 3, 2017 Apple officially released the iPhone X to the public. This new iPhone has some extensive changes to its software, design and physical properties. The iPhone does not have a home button. There are already some people that think that this is a terrific idea, and there are some that think that this new change was not such a good idea. I am one of those people that think that this was a good idea. Before Apple released this phone, there was a home button that was able to read your finger print. Apple started making this feature on the iPhone 5, until the iPhone X. I think that this was a great idea because it there was someone trying to get into your phone while you were sleeping, they could just put your fingerprint on the finger scanner and unlock your phone. Now, The phone has to read your face instead of the fingerprint. I am sure your thinking, “But, you could just put your phone over the person’s face while they were sleeping!” well, you’re wrong. The iPhone detects the person’s facial expressions and can tell if you are asleep or not. Another major change is the wireless charging. The iPhone can now charge by just putting it down on a pad. Now you do not have to deal with finding your charger and losing it. The charger just has to stay in one place. If you do not like this update, you can still charge your phone the regular way. Obviously, the software has definitely improved. Another thing that everyone is buzzing about is this program called augmented reality. Augmented reality is interaction with real life and the virtual world on your phone. You are able to look through your camera and see animations and graphics crossing over in the real world. For example, Pokemon Go uses this technology. This new phone is such a big change in the company of Apple.

I can see your point about the convenience of face recognition versus a home button. Each strategy has its advantages and disadvantages.

sophia desmaris, thanks for spotting that out, And i’m not being sarcastic or anything. I actually forgot to mention those two details. The reason why I think the home button disappearing is a good idea. Lets say you drop your phone and the home button gets jammed. Well, now you have an alternative. Also, the face ID does not work if your eyes are closed. But you don’t have to use the face ID, you could also use a password. I think that one thing that apple should have done on the iPhone X was somehow kept the touch ID. In my opinion, I think apple should have put the finger scanner on the back or side because in case you do something to your face, which makes it look different. And the thumb scanner would be an alternative. Thank you for spotting that out.

Isn’t a home button more convenient and less “weird” than having to put a phone on your face? And also, how likely is it that someone would walk into your house and try to use your phone while you’re asleep? I’m not discrediting what you said, of course, but I have to say that I disagree.

Great opening: gets right to the point with short, clear sentences. Assumes correctly what & how much the average iPhone user knows about software/hardware up to now…but doesn’t leave the newbie totally behind. This is a problem with many tech reviews: knowing (actually, guessing correctly) the reader’s knowledge level…and avoiding putting too much tecchie jargon into the narrative. Given all the hype about the “X”, this article makes me want to read more, much much more. Because if you’re going to pay as much as $1,100 for a phone which is much more than a phone, you want to know about all the features you’re now missing out on. With product reviews, it’s as they say in show-biz: ‘Always leave them wanting more.’ This article does it.
