In the fall of 2014, Cartoon Network aired the 10-episode miniseries “Over the Garden Wall”. In approximately 20-minute increments, the beautifully drawn special tells the story of Greg and Wirt, two brothers lost in the Woods.

With the help of a sarcastic bluebird named Beatrice, they try to find their way home, but must overcome many challenges to get there. Over the course of the journey, they discover new things about their strange world – and about themselves.

The story is very adventuresome, and is equal parts dramatic and funny. While it may occasionally be confusing and fast-paced, especially for younger viewers, overall the story line is simple yet meaningful.

Last year, my family bought the special on DVD, and it has become one of our favorite things to watch each fall. So if you have a chance to watch this piece, take it!
