Recently, students took a day off from school for Veteran’s Day. Veteran’s Day is a national holiday that celebrates the service of a veteran of the army. It is different from Memorial Day because Memorial Day is a somber day recognizing those who have died while serving our country. However, Veteran’s Day celebrates those who have already served bravely. Veterans are those who have served in the Navy, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and the Space Force.

   Fun Facts

  • Veterans Day used to be known as Armistice Day before the early 1900’s where the name was changed under the Eisenhower Administration
  • Unfortunately, approximately one-fifth of veterans suffer from PTSD, which stands for post-traumatic stress disorder.
  • Other countries such as the UK celebrate Veteran’s Day in different ways.
  • Red poppies are used to symbolize Veterans Day.
  • Veterans Day always occurs on November 11.
