Introduction
The playoffs are here! 32 teams enter the season and 12 remain, but only one will come on top. There are 12 teams that make the playoffs. There is also a playoff bracket and the first round is the Wild Card. These are teams that made the playoffs first or second in their division. There are 8 teams that are in the Wild Card in each division. This year the 8 teams to make it were the Mets, the Brewers, the Orioles, the Tigers, the Astros, the Royals, the Padres, and the Atlanta Braves. The other 4 teams didn’t have to go through the Wild Card. This is the beginning of the playoffs.
National League Wild Card
In the National League things were heated. First, the Padres faced the Braves in a 3 game matchup. Although these teams were both very good the Padres did a nice job and swept the Braves out of the season. Meanwhile, after losing one game and then winning the other, the Mets were trailing the Brewers in the final game 2-0. But when Pete Alonso stepped up to the plate in the ninth with 2 on, he hit a home run to give the Mets the lead. They ended up winning and sending the Brewers home.
American League Wild Card
In the American League things were not as heated. First, the Orioles faced the Royals in a 3 game matchup. Although these were both good teams, the Royals ended up sweeping the Orioles and sending them home. Meanwhile, the Tigers were playing the Astros. The Astros who were having a good season made it to the Wild Card, but the Tigers had a more historical/better one as they also swept the Astros. This means the Astros will go home. This also means that the Tiger and the Royals will go to the ALDS (American League Division Series)
The ALDS
4 teams make it to the ALDS and 2 teams make it out this season: the Royals, Yankees, Tigers, and Guardians made it to the ALDS. First, the Royals played the Yankees in a 5 game matchup. The first game was so close that it set a record (most lead changes in a game with 5). Also, not one team had more than a one run lead. However, in the end the Yankees took the first game of the ALDS. In game 2, the game wasn’t as heated as the Royals took the win 4-2. The series was tied at one. The next 2 games flew as the Yankees won both and moved on to the ALCS. Meanwhile, the Guardians were playing the Tigers. This series was so heated they had to go to game five out of five after. The Guardians won the first game, the Tigers won game 2 and game 3. Although the Tigers had the lead the Guardians ended up winning game 4 and 5 letting them move on.
The NLDS
4 teams made it to the NLDS as well, the Mets, the Dodgers, the Phillies, and the Padres. The Phillies played the Mets in a 5 game matchup fast forward to the 4th game the Mets were leading the series 2-1. Although the Phillies were winning 1-0 in the 6th inning Francisco Lindor stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and guess what he hit a grand slam! Giving the Mets the lead and the win letting them move on to the NLCS. Meanwhile, things were so heated that the Padres and the Dodgers were tied in the 5th game. The Dodgers were winning in the 7th 1-0 but Teoscar Hernandez didn’t think that was enough and in the 7th he hit a solo shot to give the Dodgers a bigger lead and a better win. They were moving on to play the Mets.
There will be more soon. Stay tuned and hope you enjoy this article of the Playoffs!
