Over the past couple of weeks, the 8th graders at Pelham Middle School have been working on tasks to help the community as part of their community projects. Two of Pelham Middle School’s projects worked with the Ikirwa School in Tanzania. The Ikirwa School is Pelham Middle School’s ‘sister school’. The Ikirwa School is located in Midawe, Tanzania. It is a private school that provides students with excellent English language education and provides learning in a safe environment. The Ikirwa School’s goal is to give every child in Tanzania access to quality education that prepares students for a lifetime of learning and success. One community project group has been having Google Meets with some students in Ikirwa over the past two months. The students at Pelham Middle School have put together lessons and activities to bond with the students at Ikirwa and help each other learn more along the way. Some topics that the PMS students have covered include nutrition, hygiene, digestive system, and cultural foods. After the lessons, the students bond through doing dances, singing, playing games like Kahoots or Blookets, and overall learning more about each other. The community project group has also raised $550 through a bake sale to donate to the Ikirwa school and help them build a dining hall. Overall, the students at both PMS and Ikirwa have bonded and learned more about each other and their lifestyles through these meetings and all have made plenty of new friends.
