Once upon a time there was a turkey. This turkey was named Tabatha. Tabatha loved fall. She loved to jump around in the piles of leaves, and couldn’t wait for winter to come. One cold dark night Todd the Turkey was talking about a holiday coming up on November 24. Tabatha was confused because she knew that there weren’t any holidays on that day. At first Tabatha thought that Todd was talking about a birthday, so she went to ask Todd. Tabatha asked, “Todd, is your birthday coming up on November 24?” Todd responded, “Absolutely not, on November 24 it’s Thanksgiving. So we have to make a plan to escape.” Tabatha wondered why they needed a plan to escape. She replied to Todd, “Why do we need a plan to escape?” Todd told Tabatha, “Turkeys like us get eaten on that day!” Tabatha got scared, she wanted to leave the farm as soon as possible. So she made a plan to leave tonight alone, instead of with everyone. She rushed to her pen and started to create a plan. First she was going to eat dinner, obviously. Then she would try to leave her pen when everyone was asleep. She would figure out where everyone else was going so she could wait for them there. Tonight Tabatha had to make a bag full of food and water because she didn’t know if she would be able to find anything to eat or drink when she left. During dinner Tabatha was going to ask Todd where he and the other turkeys were going to go once they left the farm. Todd told Tabatha that they were going to the woods. While Tabatha was packing her friend Taylor the turkey saw her. Taylor asked Tabatha, “Why are you packing so much food?” Tabatha replied to Taylor, “I am not hungry right now, but I want to make sure I have food for later when I am hungry.” Taylor replied, “Of course, why didn’t I think of that.” Tabatha thought that the encounter with Taylor almost ruined everything. She had to try to be more secretive. Tabatha wanted to leave before everyone else so she would have less of a chance of getting caught. Tabatha was going to leave in a few hours. She was all packed and ready to go. But, she had to make a good plan to decide how to leave the pen, because the pens get locked at night. Tabatha had to think about what to do. Tabatha decided that she was going to put a piece of hay in the lock so that the pen wouldn’t close all the way. Tabatha had to be ready to make her leave as soon as possible. Time was running out to set up, and the pen was about to get locked up. When the pen gets locked up everyone goes to sleep, so it will be the perfect time to leave. Then it was time to leave. Tabatha tried to open the pen door but it wouldn’t open! She had to jump over the fence. She jumped! Tabatha made it over the fence with nobody waking up. Now she had to cross the street. Tabatha waited for the cars to stop running but they didn’t. She had to run. She ran! Tabatha made it to the woods. Now she had to make a nice bed. Thankfully there was a pile of leaves by the tree. That is where Tabatha spent her night. She woke up the next morning to a bunch of turkeys. Tabatha wondered where they came from. Then she saw  turkeys that looked like Todd and Taylor in the mix. Tabatha wondered if those were the turkeys from the same farm as her. She went to ask the turkey that looked like Todd, “Hello! What is your name?” The turkey replied, “I am Todd from the farm across the street. Are you Tabatha?” Tabatha responded, “Yes I am! Why are you here?” Todd answered, “Taylor woke up last night and didn’t see you in your pen. We went to look for you. First we checked around the farm. Then we crossed the street to look for you. And you were here.” Tabatha told Todd, “Thank you for looking for me!” Tabatha and the other turkeys had a feast! Tabatha was happy that all of her friends escaped and they could celebrate Thanksgiving together!
