International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day

Jack Donahue, Contributor, 6th grade

On March 8, people all across the world celebrated the accomplishments of past and current women who have made a difference in the world and people’s personal lives. This is in accordance with March being Women’s History Month. Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day is actually very recent in terms of origin. It started in the 1980s as a movement to recognize women and their accomplishments. It used to be a week, but now we celebrate women’s accomplishments for 1/12 of the year, with an emphasis on March 8th.

Every day of the year, women such as Susan B. Anthony, Sojourner Truth, and Harriet Gloria Steinem are taught about and recognized, but days like March 8 allow us as a world to thank our women for making our world and the whole world a better place. You can honor women by saying thank you to any women in your life for something kind or lasting that they did for you. Your mom, aunt, grandma, and even your sister deserve a thank you this Women’s History Month and next International Women’s Day.
