When the air holds a light breeze and the leaves start to turn red, Fall is back around! And many kids look forward to fun fall activities such as carving pumpkins, hayrides, haunted houses and what some might call the best day of the month, Halloween!
Halloween is celebrated on October 31st and believe it or not isn’t just a day to eat candy, dress up, and have fun with your friends. Halloween holds significance in history. The tradition originated from the ancient Celtic festival called Samhain. During this time, people dressed up in costumes and light bonfires. Also, November 1st was commonly known as their New Year in the Celtic culture. Many Celts consisted of people from what is now the United Kingdom, Ireland and Northern France. However, that is not the only historical factor of Halloween. During the 8th century, Pope Gregory III put in place a day to honor all saints, November 1st. The night before was celebrated and was known as All Hallows Eve. Both of these traditions helped society develop a day full of fun, friends, and candy that is now called Halloween.
