Every year, in late January or early February, part of the town gets together at the Pelham Country Club to celebrate the young musical talent in Pelham. For almost the whole day, from 8:30 AM to almost 9:00 PM, children ranging from first graders to seniors in high school perform songs for their parents and other guests, playing everything from classical music to jazz standards to rock music. I had the honor to participate for my fourth consecutive year, playing the song Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix at the end of the fourth session. The event has been running since 2003, when it was first organized by Pelham residents Bob and Lauren Eicher. It has been running ever since barring 2020 and 2022, which were both cancelled due to COVID-19. Certain guests will also play in between performances, such as Mr. Dolgon and his mother and Ms. Bean. Local photographer Liz Farrell takes pictures of every child before they perform, providing families with a professional snapshot of the day to look back on. Certain school ensembles, such as the elementary school orchestras and the high school jazz band will also play at the show. All in all, as both a performer and an appreciator of music, it is a wonderful community event that provides children with an opportunity to perform in front of a live audience.
