*Slam* The sounds of lockers are satisfying. Almost all of them, like finally unlocking your master lock, clicking the little tab to open it, sliding the dials to insert your locker code, and even slamming it shut is like music to your ears. But, we only have so many times in a school day we can go to our locker; before 1st period, before lunch, after lunch, and when the school day ends. I think we should be able to go to our lockers in between classes, too.

Preparation

Preparation plays a crucial role in school. Being prepared is awesome, and even being barely prepared is critical to your grades, as much as your participation. But, some students aren’t always prepared, and sometimes? That’s mostly okay, even if you forgot something important like your class folder. Some students need locker passes to go to their locker to get their missing item/ an item in general.

Along with this, students even have to carry around heavy loads of school supplies, which makes it hard to carry in every class. Carrying several folders and several notebooks along with your chromebook? That can get tiring. Maybe some students even need to ensure they have everything, which isn’t necessarily hard, but takes a while.

So, based on all of these issues, students should be able to go to their lockers in between classes, so they never forget anything from their lockers ever again.

The Big Issue

Go to your locker? A special item called passes are needed. Teachers may not be able to hand out too many of these which why students should ensure that they are prepared. But sometimes, this isn’t always easy, so students should have more time to go to their lockers. Needing a pass takes long enough. My point is that students should just have the ability to go to lockers in between classes, which is a great part, ensuring teachers won’t get in trouble for handing out too many/shortage of passes,  and so students are prepared.

Locker Mischief

Teachers have reported that students have been causing trouble when they used to have the ability to go to their lockers before and after classes. If you hear that they used to have this ability, you might be thinking two things or something else; why don’t we have the ability anymore, that it’s maybe reasonable we don’t have before-and-after locker abilities anymore, and maybe even the other is “I wish we had lockers still!!”  Nonetheless, all of these claims are correct and reasonable, and I’m going to explain why.

The Real Removal Reason

The real reason why this locker ability was taken away was because students have been distracting other students from getting to class, tardy-ing them, or spending so much time that they may not attend class at all.

Another major reason was because of shortage of time. Getting supplies in between classes takes up time, since you have 3 minutes to get to class, and if you are late beyond the last minute, you are marked late. Gathering supplies from your locker is very time-consuming.

Prioritized Digital-ness— Digital technology has been more empowered, lowering the need for school supplies like notebooks or textbooks. Databases online are more prioritized than textbooks, and overall more convenient than the unnecessary needed amount of textbooks rather than just doing research/work online. Going to lockers for textbooks are like again, inconvenient. This is why lockers in between classes are likely unneeded.
